Alan Coren, the author and columnist best known for BBC's Call My Bluff and Radio 4's News Quiz, does not normally expose himself to live interview.
But he agreed to be the subject of a Meet the Author event at King's Lynn Town Hall, introduced by Ion Trewin, editor-in-chief of Weidenfeld and Nicolson.
Coren needed little prompting to prove he has a real way with words, chatting about his writing career.
He said England was rich in comedy because it was rich in language.
His writing was generated by events, which was easy in Britain: βIt is a Lewis Carroll country full of nonsense. It is all about farce. You couldn't make up what happens here. A lot of humour comes out of disorder and domestic humour breeds affection in the reader.β
