The foresight of artistic director Ambrose Miller enabled a delighted audience at King's Lynn Town Hall to witness the prodigious talent of Guy Johnston (cello), fresh from the opening night of The Proms.
Last year's BBC Young Musician guaranteed a sell-out for the first of King's Lynn Festival's five coffee concerts.
But it was a double treat, for appearing alongside Guy was another inspiring young talent, Tom Poster, whose successes include Concerto finalist in the Young Musician contest.
The audience was enthralled from the opening bars of Beethoven's Sonata in A to the conclusion of their encore, Saint-Saëns' The Swan.
Chopin's Introduction and Polonaise Brillante provided further opportunity for displays of virtuosity where delicate balance was vital.
Tom Poster (piano) could give free rein to his energies in Schubert's Four Impromptus.
Yes, this was certainly a festival coup.
