Bjorn Again @ Theatre Royal, Norwich
Bjorn Again @ Theatre Royal, Norwich
By JOHN LAWSON
Spreading love, glitter and general good fashion sense across Norwich, the silver-booted Bjorn Again had the Theatre Royal on its feet.
The Aussie tribute band have now been playing to millions for nearly as many years as the real Abba were in existence – and on this evidence their popularity will last as long as Abba's great pop songs themselves.
This sort of show – a particularly appropriate booking in Eurovision Song Contest week – reminds you just how many hits Sweden's greatest exports had, but while Bjorn Again reproduce them faithfully, the most charming thing about them is that they do not take themselves at all seriously.
The between-songs banter is conducted in comedy Swedish accents and they even introduced a little topicality with “guest appearances” by rapper Eminem and popstars Here'Say – while the boys showed they could really rock with Bon Jovi's Living on a Prayer. The audience, aged eight to 80, danced and sang along to a man on a night to remember.
