ALISON CROOSE Princess Theatre, Hunstanton
ALISON CROOSE
In these days of Fame Academy and Pop Idol, memories of Opportunity Knocks may seem old hat.
But there is nothing jaded about that show's very last winner - Mark Rattray.
He deservedly has a very successful career and, having enjoyed All That Jazz, it is clear to see why.
Not only has he a tremendous voice and he really knows how to sing a song, but he also has the personality to lead a show, and he took the audience on a musical journey through the history of jazz.
The theme presented a golden opportunity to belt out some real show-stoppers. But the entertainment had much more to it than that. This was a slick production with an excellent band of musicians and four splendid singers and dancers.
The result was as polished as a West End offering. Rattray headed the synchronised team with his infectious enthusiasm, and the audience were soon cheering numbers such as Razzle Dazzle, My Kind of Town, and the Charleston.
The choreography was excellent, especially in If They Could See Me Now and a series of numbers from Cabaret. From start to finish this show just sizzled.
