After five years dedicated work, villagers are proudly putting their Millennium Tapesty on public display.
What started as a small project at Pulham Market, near Harleston, in February 2000 grew to a tapestry measuring 6ft 6ins by 4ft 6ins, made up of nine panels depicting activities in the village over the centuries up to the present day. Many members of the community were involved, including children from the village school. The research and design was carried out locally and it was 15 months before the first stitch was worked.
Over 500 mixes of wool have been used and the tapestry contains 608,000 stitches. Visitors will have the opportunity to buy a book telling the story of the tapestry when they attend the first open day, from 11am-5pm on Sunday August 21, at Pulham Market Memorial Hall, near Harleston.
Refreshments will be available and entry is free.
