COLIN WILSON
Norwich favourites Magoo will be performing at Norwich Arts Centre on Sunday night, as part of the venue's weekend of 30th anniversary celebrations. They will be playing a dolly-mix of sounds from guitar-crunching psychedelic rock to deliciously cool electro pop.
Schizophrenic, stylish and often ahead of their time, Magoo move seamlessly between electronic beats, Vocoded vocals, dreamy synths and looped soundbites, through acoustic Americana, and all the way to feed-back wailing, riff-riden noise rock.
The five-piece have supported the likes of Ash, Snow Patrol, The Delgados, and Mogwai and have released tracks on labels including Glasgow's coolest Chemikal Underground and Fierce Panda. After seven Peel sessions, XFM A-list plays, a high- profile slot at Glastonbury and Radio 1 Live in Newcastle under their belts, Magoo are back stronger, catchier and brimming with more ideas than ever before.
Main support comes from Hamfatter. During their brief existence, Hamfatter have amassed a loyal crowd of followers in their hometown of Cambridge, while risking the odd foray into London with a coach-load of fans in tow. The band will be playing songs from their colourful debut album Fireworks, out now on Pink Hedgehog records.
Opening the evening will be Next Big Thing III semi-finalist Master Solo. Firmly rooted in alt-country, Master Solo also takes inspiration from the likes of Herman Dune, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Sebadoh.
Doors 8pm. Tickets £5adv/£6door, 01603 660352, or from www.ueaticketbookings.co.uk
