Wroxham produced a strong performance to defeat a determined Heybridge Swifts at a blustery Trafford Park last night.
The scoreline somewhat flattered Wroxham in what was a much tighter affair than the result suggests, with Heybridge testing the Wroxham back four on numerous occasions and the home side's defence managing to keep them at bay.
The visitors started with plenty of confidence for a side at the wrong end of the table but the Yachtsmen soon began to settle and a ninth minute corner led to the opening goal.
Remy Gordon took it short to David Hinton and the Wroxham midfielder whipped in a first time ball that deceived Danny Sambridge with the aid of the wind to fall to Matt Halliday, the Wroxham centre back chesting it down before nonchalantly volleying into the unguarded net.
Heybridge had the wind behind them and they began to use this to their advantage, Chris Bryan heading wide when well placed before Billy Hunt mistimed his touch when through on goal from ten yards.
Christy Finch then saw an effort hit the post and roll agonisingly along the line for Wroxham before first Neil Richmond and then Aaron Gayle had efforts blocked by Halliday and Elliot Pride respectively.
The hosts had the wind both behind them and in their sails at the start of the second half and they soon doubled their advantage, Finch sneaking in at the back post to slide home Gordon's high corner on 50 minutes.

Hunt then struck the bar – via a superb fingertip save from Pride – on 66 minutes, before a cross-cum-shot was cleared off the line by Howell 60 seconds later as the visitors threatened a response.
But Wroxham held strong and sealed the win with two minutes remaining as another devilish corner from Gordon struck Stephen Taylor and rolled into the net for their fifth win on the bounce.
