Last Sunday on Oulton Broad was another in this strange winter season where the weather was the dominating factor. As the crews arrived there was not a breath of wind and it looked as though racing was probably going to be cancelled but after half an hour the sails began to flap as the wind gradually increased.

The dinghies had all given up and gone home, but eight Squibs had rigged and set off for a very gentle race. David Gooch arrived at the first mark with a useful lead over Bryan Riley and Owen Delany, which he steadily increased and they completed the small course in that order.

By the time for the second race the wind had increased a bit more and the three leading boats from the first race got the best of the start and never looked like being caught.

But their running order was quite different as Gooch could not find the wind and could only watch as Riley and Delany steadily sailed away into the distance to give Riley yet another win.
