Gary Setchell said he would make no excuses after being forced to make five changes to his team on Saturday - and he didn't need to as King's Lynn Town won again.

The Linnets were always going to be without striker Jason Turner, who was getting married, for their Evo-Stik Division One South trip to Kidsgrove Athletic.

However, things got worse when Richard Bunting, Russell Dunkley, Jason Lee and Dan Quigley got caught in traffic after an accident on the M1 and informed Setchell they were going to be unable to make kick-off.

As a result, the Lynn boss was forced to name all four as substitutes, but his much-changed side still delivered by racking up their seventh straight win to keep up their fine start to life at Step Four.

'I can't say it wasn't a blow they arrived late but I though the lads who started the game did us proud. It's difficult to have to make five changes after such a fantastic win (agains Coalville on Tuesday), said the Lynn boss.

'It was difficult with the lads being on the motorway but they're all first team players who came in. We didn't have three or four 17 year olds going out on the pitch. We had the likes of Bully (Buhlemann), (Jamie) Forshaw, (Danny) Beaumont, Pat Bexfield and Ryan Fryatt who have all got experience at this level.

'I said to the lads 'we don't make excuses'. The days of excuse making are gone for this club and team. Some of them felt they probably should have played more than they have this season so it was an opportunity to go out there and show it and one or two of them did.'

Forshaw got Lynn off to a flier by scoring inside 60 seconds and Beaumont netted a late second to secure Lynn's sixth consecutive triumph in the league.

The latter came in for praise from Setchell after shining in an unusual three-man central midfield, for this season at least, alongside Bexfield and Ross Watson.

The Lynn boss said of Beaumont: 'Beauy went into the middle of midfield and he's probably played their once - Cambridge City away in pre-season. And he did a good job in there. He's good on the ball, he's got good legs, he's got good energy, he's 6ft, and there's no reason why he can't play in there. Players are players, a pitch is a pitch, and if they've got good awareness and passing ability they can play anywhere on a pitch.

'We have got a good squad. We have got a siege mentality within the group. Whoever steps across the white line, we expect them to do a job. You can class that as a workmanlike performance. I don't think there were any thrills and spills - although Danny (Gay) made some great saves and there were glimpses of what we can do.'

Second-placed Lynn will be looking to keep up the pressure on Coalville on Tuesday when they visit Rainworth Miners' Welfare.
