The launch of the River Waveney Trust at Harleston saw every seat taken with over 100 anglers, canoeists, landowners and interested parties in attendance.

A show of hands with just one abstainer saw the call for an independent survey to go ahead to analyse chemical surges identified in EA samplings at Billingford and also to seek a remedy for dissolved oxygen problems with lethal lows of fewer than 2 even in November.

National Rivers Trust regional Director Barry Bendall, who happens to live at Haddiscoe, spoke and gave the good news of a 5000 donation from them to establish the local Trust and register it as a charity.

John Wilson MBE opened the meeting giving his support and things now look set to move forward emphatically. A letter of support from the two local MPs Richard Bacon and Peter Aldous was read to the meeting. Geoff Doggett of Harleston, who has set up an excellent website and will be the operative officer, has asked all interested parties to go on line and sign up straight away for free membership on www.riverwaveneytrust.org

A run out a little further afield to Hinderclay Fishery makes a pleasant day out with its five lakes set in pristine surroundings. Both large and small, with a regular match following, there is still plenty of room for pleasure anglers.

Just four or five metres out on a pole with sweetcorn, and a size 14 hook, can be all that is required here feeding a few grains at a time as samples.

There are plenty of venues to choose from in the Waveney Area including Marsh Trail Lakes, Aldeby Hall, Field Farm, Wrentham, Fiske's at Henstead near to Ellough; Bales Nursery at Ellingham.

The fantastic range of four vastly differing pools at Broome Pits and even the Harleston Clubs new open season arrangement expands exciting possibilities. Then we have Highfield at Thorpe Abbots with three; Halesworth road Cider Farm and Walpole, Weybread Fishery and Topcroft. All go into the pot that comprises around 30 local venues including the Quiet Sport ones at Wisset and Yaxley. Easy to catch carp of course dominate, as that's what anglers want these days, but in most silver fish can be caught with a dedicated approach.
