Strike duo Jack Defty and Jason Turner were praised by King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell after both scored in their side's 3-0 win over Daventry United on Saturday.

Turner's first-half strike and a second-half brace from Defty helped Lynn keep up their United Counties Premier Division title charge with a convincing victory which maintained their 10-point lead over Long Buckby.

It was the second game in a row that Lynn's front two had scored and the Linnets boss admits their blossoming partnership could prove vital in his team's remaining seven UCL games.

Setchell said: 'Jack and Jason are a good partnership. They compliment each other. They're not the quickest but they're two strong lads.

'They're big, they make clever runs and when you've got pace down the sides - i.e Danny Beaumont and Spriggsy (Steve Spriggs) when he came on - then obviously you don't need the pace down the middle. Jack's finding his form.

'I'd still like him to get fitter but I'm always pressing on at all the players to retain their fitness. Jack's a class player and if you put the ball in the right areas he is going to score goals.

'Jason Turner showed again what he's about. He looked like he'd over run it for his goal and then he cheekily put it by the goalkeeper. He's a nuisance and he never gives defenders a minute's rest.'

Buckby matched Lynn's win by beating Holbeach United 3-0 but remain 10 points behind Setchell's table-toppers having played three games less.

'It was a routine win. We were comfortable first half, we hit the woodwork a couple of times and created all those chances,' said the Linnets manager.

'We needed to press on second half which we did. We got two quick goals and basically put the game to bed. The lads took their the foot off the gas a bit but perhaps they did it subconsciously.

'It was brilliant for Ciaran Beales to make his league debut off the bench because he's impressed with the reserves and youth team. With Robbie Harris having his stomach infection it was an ideal chance to give him a go.

'I felt the game was right at 3-0 to use him and he done some nice things, could have got himself a goal, but then he did some sloppy things. However, it's a big introduction, into his first game at this level, and he did well.'
