North Walsham turned in their best performance at Scottow for some time to move out of the bottom two in London 1N.

One can only hope that it has not come too late to turn things round for this season.

With the luxury of selecting from the same squad as last week there was the hope that there would be a performance equally as promising.

The Vikings took the lead with a try from McCall. Off a shortened line McCall found Coller, who took the ball off the top and delivered it to the hands of the industrious Hardisty, who released the backs. Tibbatts was put up the middle and quickly rucked ball saw it moved wide to the right where the forwards quickly arrived. Three pick and drives took the ball over the line for McCall to score the points but without the conversion.

Walsham then conceded two penalties at the breakdown, the second being put over by Poole to make it 5-3. The hosts then put together a number of good moves, with Hyde and Hodgson looking very strong in the centres. Looking to exploit any running opportunities they released Van Vuuren to within metres of the try line. From the resulting scrum OC were penalised and Forrester kicked to the corner for a lineout. Caught and driven on, Loose was the man to emerge with the biggest smile, having been taken over with the power of Davies and Hegarty behind him. Dewing added the conversion and it was 12-3.

Walsham stretched their lead when young prop Campbell put a beautifully timed pass back into Borrett's hands to finish off what he started under the posts. Dewing obliged with the conversion and with five minutes of the half remaining it was 19-3.

As the second half started it was a different Walsham, playing with much more composure and putting the ball back into the OC's half through Forrester's boot.

From a scrummage the pack forced OC into conceding another penalty which was again put to the corner. For the only time in the game McCall's throw did not find Coller but the rub of the green was with Walsham. Standing at the back was the shortest forward of both sides, Godwin. He was happy to accept the ball and take a couple of steps over the line, with Dewing making it 26-3 with a four try bonus point now in the bag. Another score came when the McCall-Coller combination was again spot on and Hardisty put the ball into Forrester's hands right on the gain line.

Two side steps later that were a joy to see and he was on the fullback. As ever Godwin was there in support and in text book style the fullback was committed and Forrester released Godwin for his second try under the posts. Dewing added his now customary two and it was 33-3.

OC though were not going to roll over and dominated the next 15 minutes, spending most of it in the Walsham 22. Two yellow cards were conceded and, down to 13, the team pulled together and fought tooth and nail to protect their line.

Back up to 15, ascendancy was restored in the scrum and the ball taken from OC's put-in deep in Walsham's 22. Quickly released to the backs, Hyde received the ball just inside his 22 and finished with a wonderful side-step under the posts for Dewing to make it 40-3.
