Defender Jason Lee admits he will never forget the moment he became King's Lynn Town's goalkeeping hero.

The centre-back had to don the number one jersey after Alex Street was sent off in the 51st minute during Saturday's Evo-Stik Premier Division clash with Nantwich Town at The Walks.

And he instantly wrote his name into Linnets' folklore by saving Aaron Burns' penalty kick.

Lee said: 'I'd like to say I guessed correctly, but I think it was a case of me diving to my favoured side and just keeping that wrist strong.

'The gaffer (Gary Setchell) has politely reminded me that it was perhaps my fault leading up to the change of jersey, so I think I redeemed myself a little bit.

'I had to apologise to Peds (Street) – but it was a nice feeling.'

The stand-in keeper, who has pulled on the gloves temporarily at other clubs during his career, went on to make another fine stop to deny Max Harrop as the 10 men of King's Lynn hung on for the spirited point their efforts deserved.

'The grandchildren will be told,' said the left-sided player.

'Log fire on at Christmas I'll be telling my story, don't worry.

'It is nice.'

Linnets manager Setchell added: 'If anyone was going to save the penalty it would be Jay Lee as he's that type of character and writes his own headlines.

'We've had training sessions where he's played in goal, he's sharp and he's a good goalkeeper.

'It's an option.

'Jason can do 40 minutes but I wouldn't want him to do 40 games.'
