Norwich City's Academy side failed to shake off the hangover after their defeat in the FA Youth Cup at Newcastle midweek, as they were beaten 2-0 by Millwall at Colney this afternoon.

David Williams gave a first start in goal for England Under 16s international Declan Rudd, while Rossi Jarvis was drafted into the back four and Michael Spillane was used in a central midfield role.

It was the Canaries who had the first shout on goal when Jarvis sent in a low cross which Millwall defender Ben Paine turned onto his own upright before the ball was cleared away.

The Lions' striker David Amoo was causing the City defence all sorts of problems and he brought out a good save from Rudd but, with 30 minutes on the clock, the visitors finally broke the deadlock when AMOO raced from his own half to beat Rudd with a shot just inside the near post.

After the break, City had an early effort by Ross Kelly blocked, while Kurtis Byrne will feel he should have done better after he shot straight at the keeper, this coming after some good build-up play from the Canaries involving Luke Daley.

Moments later, City came close to scoring when Tom Crowther in the Millwall goal failed to hold on to a Mark O'Toole free kick allowing Daley to get a touch on the loose ball, only for a defender to block his efforts. Crowther then had to be alert to save a deflected shot from City substitute Bally Smart.

With 77 minutes on the clock, Millwall put the game beyond City when Rudd was beaten from a free kick from Darren EBSWORTH.
