Both the Great Yarmouth and Gorleston SC and Waveney and Oulton Broad YC started their summer seasons on Sunday.

A snow storm was not the kind of weather that was expected or wanted - but that's what they got.

The Gorleston helmsmen decided that a hot drink in the clubhouse held more attraction than sailing and no boats were launched, but at Oulton Broad 14 helmsmen were made of sterner stuff and started in the race for the Lady Mayhew Trophy.

There was not much wind and by the race start the snow had stopped. It was no surprise when Richard Smith quickly took a lead which he steadily increased in his RS400, followed by Duncan Madin in his RS300. The race is scheduled to last for an hour and the OOD could not have got it nearer as Richard crossed the finishing line in just three seconds short of 60 minutes. Duncan came in three minutes and three seconds behind and on handicap missed out by just two seconds.

Nick Barrett took in third in another RS400 and stayed there on handicap while Alan Cone was the leading Laser and took fourth place.
