Thetford's attempts to build some momentum for a title challenge has again been broken after seeing their home league fixture against Haverhill postponed because their opponents were unable to field a side for a second time.

The call-off saw Thetford awarded a home walkover, and the league points, for the second time in three matches in Greene King IPA Eastern Counties Two.

Last week Thetford won 22-17 at Norwich Medics but the week before that it was Felixstowe unable to fulfil their fixture.

It keeps Thetford three points behind leaders Thurston, with seven wins recorded from eight games as the halfway point of the season approaches.

Next up it is a trip to leaders Thurston though, providing Thetford with a perfect opportunity to get back into league action.

On Saturday the club's second string also saw its match called off, against Watton, so a practice match was arranged to provide the entertainment for the club's Vice President's Luncheon, with Thetford As beating Thetford Bs 30-20.

Thetford had seen in action in midweek though, in front of a crowd of over 150 spectators, as they played RAF Honnington in a Wednesday night friendly.

Thetford started the game well with good ball from the pack releasing the backs and a good break from Harper created space for Clark to score the first try. The RAF responded well and scored a well worked try, which was converted to put them 7-5 ahead.

Thetford and Fitt got on the scoresheet after good work from Briggs and Harper. From the resulting kick-off Thetford drove Honnigton back, before a chip over the rushing defence and Clarke was on-hand to score his second try of the match.

Next Thetford drove the visitors back from a lineout before young second row Cotton scored a deserved try, which was converted for a half-time lead oft 26-7.

The second half started well for Honnington with good forward play earning a well worked try. Thetford replied in kind when some good offloads created space for the hard working Pizzey to score in the corner but again Honnington came back and worked the ball through the forwards for a third try.

Briggs scored another try for Thetford, which Briggs converted, but the best try of the match was left until last as they ran the length of the pitch, offloading in the tackle through Fitt, Clarke, Wilson and Williams for Pizzey to charge through the remaining tacklers to score.
