Thurlow Nunn round-up: Great Yarmouth suffer heavy defeat against Histon
Great Yarmouth Town suffered their worst defeat since joint managers Martyn Sinclair and Adam Mason took charge at the Wellesley against Histon.
The Bloaters were having the better of proceedings early on and Sean Perfect came close with a fine effort that went just wide. Mitch Forbes was next to go closest but after his shot was saved the Histon goalkeeper managed to scramble away the rebound.
Yarmouth finally got their noses in front in the 18th minute when the Histon goalkeeper’s hasty clearance hit Sanders on the back and the striker reacted first to head home his 10th of the season.
The pace of Perfect and Forbes was causing problems for the visitors as the home side established early command of the game.
The main threat from the visitors was through wing-back Tommy Wright and he set up the equaliser thanks to his marauding run and cross, which found James Carman to score.
It got worse for the home side when Ady Ager was shown a straight red card for an off the ball incident leaving Yarmouth down to 10 men.
Histon immediately seized the initiative and they soon got in front through Patrick Bexfield.
The visitors made full use of their man advantage in the second half and Danny Gould’s cross was converted to make it 3-1. Haydn Davis hit the post for Yarmouth but it was then a case of damaged limitation although further goals from Matt Hayden (two) and Evan Key completed a miserable afternoon for the Bloaters.
Kirkley & Pakefield enjoyed an excellent 5-1 win at Wivenhoe thanks to goals from Kyle Baker (2), Lewis Flower, Jordan Haverson and Kyle Haylock whilst Wroxham were held to a 0-0 draw at Stanway Rovers.
In the First Division goals from Ryan Pearson, Joe Jackson and Alex Vincent gave Swaffham Town all three points at Debenham LC whilst King’s Lynn Town Reserves went down to a 3-2 defeat against Whitton United.
Downham Town came from behind twice to beat Holland 3-2 and goals from Virgilio Leitao and Lewis Cooke gave Diss the points against AFC Sudbury Reserves.
