Losing 8-2 at Newmarket has already been forgotten about by Gorleston boss Ricci Butler as he looks to get his team back on track when they host Ipswich Wanderers today.

That shock result brought an end to the Greens' unbeaten league run of 18 matches, in fifth place in the Thurlown Nunn Premier Division but with plenty of games in hand on the teams above them.

'It's still been a superb season so far and you have to include that result because, where we are as a club, to an extent we need results like that to learn from them as a club, players and managers,' Butler said.

'You need losses sometimes because you don't learn anything from winning week in, week out.

'You come unstuck, it's not a nice result, but it's only a loss, you take it, move on and we prepare for this week like every other.'

Bad weather in the lead up to the game didn't help Gorleston with their preparations for that trip, although striker Connor Ingram did score the two consolation goals to take his tally to 16 goals in 19 league games and put him top of the league's scoring charts.

'The availability of training during that week wasn't great but on the day we could have been 2-0 up and we didn't take our chances and everytime they went forward they scored,' Butler continued. 'I'd say seven of my players who have been consistent had bad days on the same day.

'But we've got young players, we take it on the chin but the result has been forgotten about it.

'We've been able to have two training sessions this week and planned like every other game and we're at home.

'We knew we were in for a hard January with Felixstowe, the Vase, Ipswich Wanderers and also we've got Stanway to come, so we knew it would be really tough – but we're two league games in and we've got three points.'

Yarmouth are also at home, against lowly Clacton, and can do a favour to bottom club Swaffham, if they can win at Brantham.

Thetford host Saffron Walden, Fakenham travel to Ely and Kirkley & Parkefield are away to struggling Long Melford.
