Norwich Swan's County Championship campaign has got off to a flying start.

At the distance freestyle gala held at the UEA Sportspark, swimmers were able to race in events not usually swum at team galas and open meets, with the girls competing in the 800m and the boys in 1,500m.

Keira Frosdick, 11, won her first ever county medal, claiming bronze in her age-group. She battled with Megan Pye for the entire 16-length duration, missing out on the silver by just over half a second. With her favoured events yet to come in the championships, Keira has shown that she is going to be one to watch.

Tilly Anema has been competing at this level for only a year and her improvement has been quite remarkable. The determined 12-year-old was committed from the starting signal, extending her lead stroke by stroke throughout the 800m distance to touch 23 seconds ahead of her nearest rival to claim her first ever county title.

At the tender age of 13 and with several county breaststroke titles under her belt from previous years, Peyton Ewbank was hoping for a medal in the distance freestyle. It soon became apparent she would need to swim a long course personal best if she was going to be amongst the medallists. With two lengths left to swim, there was nothing between Peyton and Rachel Faulkner and Megan Mann (both City of Norwich). Peyton kicked hard to pull ahead over the final 50m, finishing two seconds ahead of Rachel, with Megan claiming the bronze.

Returning to Norwich from Wolverhampton, seasoned campaigner Lilyella Craw-Seaman has settled quickly into her new club and has been a motivational force to Norwich Swan young hopefuls. She was in a class of her own winning the 14-years 800m by a considerable margin. Clocking 9:19.66, Lilyella also gained a National age-group qualifying time. Norwich Swan dominated with Hannah Cooper taking the bronze and Ellie Bushell three–tenths of a second behind in fourth place.

Club captain Cloudy Majtenyi-Hill swam strongly on her 16th birthday against older competitors and should be delighted with her silver medal in the 16 years and over age-group. Cloudy was edged out by Jenny Seaman (City of Norwich) who took the gold medal but claimed the scalp of Paralympian Jessica-Jayne Applegate, who finished third.

In the men's 1500m, sprinter Harry Crisp showed his versatility to win silver in the 16 years and over age-group behind Nathan Wells of West Norfolk.
