Wisbech Town are poised to hand a debut to prolific striker Gary Gibbs at Spalding United this evening.

Joint-boss Paul Cousins looked set to secure the signature of the Peterborough Sports frontman ahead of the Fenmen's daunting trip to the Tulips. Gibbs, the brother of St Ives Town forward Karl, bagged 31 goals last term to share the Peterborough Premier Division golden boot and help Sports gain promotion to the United Counties League (UCL) First Division. And he's already scored four times this season to convince Wisbech to give him a chance at a higher level.

Cousins said: 'We've never really replaced Bakes (Chris Bacon). It's going to be hard to replace him as he was too good for our level. But Gary will be someone nearer to what he did. A big, strong, powerful forward to help up in this physical league. I've heard a lot of stories about him and I spoke to his brother who says he's a better player than he is. He'll be relishing the challenge and hopefully he can do as well for us as he did for Sports.'

Gibbs will be joined by another new face in the shape of King's Lynn Town centre-back Ryan Fryatt. He has completed dual registration forms to play for the evening with Jon Fairweather (ankle) set for a spell, alonside Adam Millson (ankle), on the sidelines.

Wisbech, who won 3-1 during Cousins and Scott Johnson's first game in charge against Newport Pagnell Town on Saturday, will be looking to end Spalding's 100pc start to the UCL Premier Division season.
