Stormy weather brought an early end to the first day of this year's Norfolk Cricket Festival at Manor Park this afternoon.

The thunder, lightning and heavy rain ended play for the day with Norfolk at 108-4 in the Unicorns Minor Counties Championship match against Cumberland.

The visitors won the toss and put Norfolk into bat at their Horsford home but suffered a loss in the very first over.

James Spelman, fresh from an unbeaten 137 from 143 balls for Great Witchingham yesterday, went for four after just six balls.

Peter Lambert (27) and stand-in skipper Garry Park (18) got the score moving in the right direction.

When Jordan Taylor also went for 18 the hosts were on 88-4 but Ashley Watson (18) and debutant Lewis Denmark (8) had stabilised the innings before play was halted for bad light with the score at 108-4.

Those dark clouds proved to be ready to burst though and a storm ensured play was ended for the day after just under three hours of action.

Day two is due to get under way at 11am tomorrow, if the pitch is playable.
