West Norfolk boss Nigel Richardson is hoping his side's winning start to the year can be the springboard to a successful 2013.

The North Wootton club beat Southwold 12-10 on Saturday to end a run of three Greene King Eastern Counties Division One defeats on the bounce.

West's triumph sets them up nicely for another important game tomorrow when they travel to Harwich & Dovercourt, like Southwold, who are below them in the table.

Richardson believes his men can take plenty of positives from their performance at the weekend and expects more encouraging signs of their renaissance in Essex.

West's manager said: 'Beating Southwold was a morale boost. The lads needed it. They kept plugging away and worked so hard.

'We have been guilty of getting towards the try-line and panicking in recent matches but we didn't at the weekend. We kept patient and our tries came from good moves and even better runs.

'The lads came off exhausted. They put in so much effort. But there was no dancing or singing because we won. You just could see a lot of relief that we had.'

Two scores from Charlie Moore, one which was converted by Nick Bull, secured Richardson's troops' comeback from being 10-0 down at the break.

Moore and stand-in skipper Ross Biggs, who deputised for Paul Denton, came in for praise after their match-winning displays at the weekend.

Richardson said: 'Charlie is deceptively fast and very skilful. He's one of the best young players about at this level.

'His decision making sometimes goes astray but he scored two magnificent tries and I was pleased for him. Ross stepped up to the mark which was good to see as he's our vice-captain, even if he's fairly quiet.

'But hats off to Paul. He stood down and played for the thirds after his spell out through injury. To his credit, he adhered to his own policy.'

West, eighth, who travel south without Ed Maule and Michael Skinner tomorrow, are one place and three points above Harwich.
