Soaking up and landing a few rays
Eight anglers travelled to West Mersea on Saturday to fish for bass and thornback rays on sand banks about three miles out. The weather made for ideal fishing conditions, it was sunny and the sea was flat and the anglers even had time to soak up a few rays.

The biggest fish of the day went to Nigel Bryant from Laxfield.
He landed a 9lb 4oz thornback ray.

Runners-up were Charlie Flatman, from Burgate who landed a 8lb 14oz thornback ray and also a dog fish and whiting.
Pip Mills, from Diss, netted a 7lb 12oz thornback ray, plus dog fish.

Michael Thorndyke, from Eye, bagged a 7lb 12oz thornback ray.
Kieth Carter, from Hoxne, also caught a 7lb 8oz thornback ray and dog fish.
Paul Stow, from Scole, landed a thornback ray and dogfish while David Newcombe, from Tibenham, captured some bass, dog fish and thornback ray.
Colin Haddock, from Thorndon, also enjoyed landing some thornback ray and dog fish. All the anglers had a good day's fishing and caught a total of 18 thornback rays, eight dog fish, and one bass.
