Gary Setchell was quick to emphasise King's Lynn Town's play-off ambitions after they continued to show championship-challenging form on Saturday.

Lynn made it nine games unbeaten in all competitions by edging out Northwich Victoria 1-0 at The Walks to keep hot on the heels of Evo-Stik Division One South pace-setters Coalville Town.

Despite being the only side to beat the table-toppers – who thumped Hucknall Town 9-1 at the weekend – in the league this term, Setchell insisted he's not dreaming of a title tilt: 'People keep talking about the championship. And yes we've got a great number of points. But we're just putting a big gap between ourselves and sixth and we're happy about that,' said the Lynn boss.

'We're just going to keep enjoying our football and getting the points. If Coalville slip up, they slip up, if they don't and win the title then so be it. We're going to set a good points target for ourselves.

'I felt 68 to 70 points would get us in the play-offs and we've taken a couple of good strides to getting to that amount. Getting in the play-offs at the start of the season would have been a massive achievement. The bar has been raised somewhat by our performances and our results. The lads are just enjoying the ride at the moment.'

Striker Russell Dunkley's header on the stroke of half-time – Lynn's first attempt on target in the game – was enough to maintain their unbeaten home league record.

Setchell's men have collected 29 points from a possible 36 and have already opened up a 13-point gap over sixth-placed Newcastle Town – who sit just outside the prized play-off places.

The only blots on the Linnets' win wers injuries to Phil Gulliver (hamstring) and Dan Quigley (ankle) with both being injury doubts for tomorrow's home match with seventh-placed Gresley.

'Without a shadow of a doubt we had to call on all our reserves to get the three points,' added Setchell. 'Anyone who was at the game would have seen what a very good side Northwich Victoria are.

'It was one of those type of performances that I like to associate with my team this season. We were played off the pitch for the first half-hour – there was no question about that.

'But the lads dug in and dug in and that's what we do – and we picked up another three points against a team in my opinion who will be very hard to beat this season.'
