North Walsham Vikings and Lowestoft and Yarmouth will contest the first semi-final of the Woodforde's Norfolk Senior Cup at Scottow this evening (7-45pm).

It is nine years since the two sides last met, also in a semi-final and also at Scottow. Back then L&Y were in London 3 North East and Walsham were in the National League and there was quite a gulf between the clubs. In recent times the gap has narrowed, with Walsham having dropped down a division and L&Y holding station. Both sides have had what can best be described as average seasons, with near mid table positions.

There are player links between the clubs. L&Y's coach Scott Nelson played a full season of National League rugby in 2003-04 before moving away, props Jake Titterington and Wayne Nixon also wore the green and black but arguably the one who made the greatest impact at Walsham is No 8 Marc Thomas who scored 14 tries in 40 games between 2003 and 2005. On the reverse side Walsham prop Shaun Woodhouse spent time at Corton.

The anticipated clash between the Oakes brothers Ryan and Matt will not happen because the latter is on tour with his university side.
