The opportunity of a return to Fakenham Town was too good to resist for Robbie Harris.

The returning Ghosts manager was announced as Wayne Anderson's successor earlier this week and is feeling confident of a successful second spell in charge at Clipbush Park.

Harris, now aged 33, previously took over from Anderson as player-coach in joint charge alongside club stalwart Neil Jarvis for the final months of the 2014-15 campaign.

Jarvis left for a short stint with Wroxham in October 2015 and Harris soldiered on until January 2016 during a difficult season in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, when Anderson returned from Dereham Reserves.

That merry-go-round has spun again though, with Anderson leaving in April and Jarvis leading the Ghosts into the Norfolk Senior Cup final against King's Lynn, which was lost 2-0 at Carrow Road on Monday.

'I was happy at Wisbech St Mary but this was a good opportunity personally for myself so I put in an application,' Harris explained. 'The lads are brilliant and they are all still there, that's one of the reasons I wanted to go back, from my brief spell in charge with Neil, which was about four months before Neil departed for Wroxham.'

The striker is unlikely to continue playing, having scored seven in 27 games this season, due to the need for a groin operation but enjoyed his return to St Mary.

'It's a good club on the up massively and it was my hometown club when I was growing up so it was nice to go back and give a little something back,' he added.

'It was a really enjoyable time for me, they're a club to look out for in the next few years, I'm sure they'll come up to the Premier Division as well.'

Fakenham finished fifth this season, 13 points clear of the bottom three, and Harris feels he is inheriting a good squad.

'Wayne has done a great job and the lads are very good, I know what they can do already, but I will be looking to bring in a few new players as well to bolster the squad,' he continued.

'I don't see any reason why, with a couple of additions, we can't finish in the top half but I'll be looking to consolidate at first and look to get back to playing a bit more attractive football.'
