Lowestoft Town's form has finally taken a turn for the better – but the Trawlerboys won't be allowed to rest on their laurels.

The Blues head into this afternoon's game against Alfreton Town bidding to make it five matches unbeaten, on the back of a 4-0 FA Trophy thumping of St Albans City.

And while that is good news for boss Ady Gallagher, pictured, there is still plenty of work to be done for a team which sit fourth from bottom and desperate to kick clear of the relegation zone.

'There is work to be done,' said Gallagher.

'It is important we don't get too carried away. It wasn't that long ago we couldn't get results together and I am hoping the players have been able to identify the real differences. They are all basic things, but those basic things can prove the difference between being a winning side and a losing side.

'The work-rate of the side, the work ethic of the group, is as good as it has ever been. We are getting a bit of reward and we are getting little bits of luck on the pitch because we are earning it. That is what you have to do.

'We will just keep doing what we have always done here – take one game at a time and keep putting honest performances in, stick together, have a decent fighting spirit and try and play a bit of football as well if we can.

'I am just pleased we have gone a few games now without a defeat.'

Gallagher believes he can trace Town's upturn in fortunes to the 3-0 defeat at Bradford Park Avenue at the end of October.

'I felt things started to change in the second half of that game when we were down to 10 men and 3-0 down and we put in a really solid resilient performance with two banks of four, just trying to frustrate the opposition, and we created chances,' he said.

'It was a bit of a turning point for the players. We started to be believe what we were doing defensively and it went into the next game, a really solid performance against Solihull when we came back twice, and you started to see a mentality from the lads, a lot more belief. In training there is a lot more confidence in their play and results like the Trophy win only do us good.'

The old argument may well be whether knockout competition commitments are a distraction, but Gallagher is happy to ride the wave.

'It is always going to be about the league, but it is momentum at the moment,' he said.

'We have had our difficulties this season, but we have put four decent results together.'

To make it five, Town have to do the double over 14th-placed Alfreton, who they beat 1-0 on August 11 – their first away league fixture of the campaign.

Gallagher said: 'I am sure they will come looking to put things right from that first meeting, but we will be looking to build on the good work of the last few weeks.'
