Gary Potter was the undisputed king pin of the Great Yarmouth & Caister winter pro-am series - and he rounded it off with victory in the championship meeting. Potter, the professional at the Links Country Park at West Runton, won all but two of the monthly competitions.

He signed off with a one-under par 69 which included a spectactacular birdie on the 327-yard first hole, where he drove the green.

'My highlight was that drive on the first - I've never done that before. Normally you lay up short of the racetrack but the ground was quite lively and the wind was behind so I thought I'd give it a go. The ball got on to the front of the green and I just missed the eagle putt.'

He immediately followed up with another birdie on the second, where he resisted the temptation to go for the green but chipped and one-putted. Altogether, Potter had four birdies in his round. But crucially, he finished with two pars, courtesy of two clutch putts, one from 10ft and the other from 15ft. They kept him two shots clear of runner-up Sam Cubitt (Eagles). Potter is enjoying fine form and, air travel permitting, will be competing in a seniors' challenge event in Slovenia next week. The pro-am/am-am series will resume on October 6.
