A pair of marathon mums proudly ran past mid-Norfolk school children in the final week of Breckland's own Olympic torch relay today.

The so-called Friendship Flame, which started its route in Dereham on June 17, made its way from Swaffham Community Centre to Great Dunham Primary School.

Torchbearers were Alex Vincent and Zack Chandler, a Litcham High School work experience student, followed by Geraldine Jordan and Annie Harper - both parents and keen marathon and triathlon runners.

Excited pupils from the school greeted the torch with cheers and were not put off by the wet weather.

To celebrate the event the children played table tennis, cup stacking and new age bowling, among other activities.

Ali Fisher, extended schools co-ordinator for the Litcham learning community, said: 'I was very keen for the flame to come through the Litcham area and have tried to make sure that each bearer has a link to the community of schools from childcare to high school.

'We all work together in partnership on a daily basis and I wanted the relay to reflect this.'

Other torchbearers included headteachers, governors, parents, childcare and support staff.

The flame will travel from Great Dunham primary to Litcham Primary School tomorrow and will then make its way past Mileham Primary School, Litcham High School and Beetley the following day (Wednesday).

It will leave Gressenhall on Thursday, will arrive on horseback in Swanton Morley on Saturday and is due to complete its route at the Dereham 5k race this Sunday.
