Great Melton Phoenix are the first team through to the semi-finals of the Junior Carter Cup after beating Swardeston Sharks in an exciting finish on Sunday.
Swardeston batted first and openers Jonathan Martin (41) and Robbie Bridgstock (37) put on 104. But the other batsmen failed to build on that solid base and there were three wickets apiece for J Mardell and Alex Cooper as Swardeston were all out for 171 in the 35th over.
Cooper (32), Nick Gristwood (30no) and Mardell (29) then allowed Melton to equal that total from their 42 overs, and they won by virtue of losing one less wicket. Will Kennard was Swardeston's top bowler, taking four for 33, while Josh Waterman bowled a miserly seven-over spell of two for 13.
The rest of the quarter-finals are due to be played this Sunday, with the line-up as follows: Dereham Jaguars v Norwich Dragons, Downham/Stow Bombers v Horsford Knights, Topcroft Tigers v Hales Herd.
