King's Lynn Town manager Gary Setchell admitted that the FA Cup defeat had left him at one of his lowest points in his time at the club, writes Mark Hearle.

'Gutted, absolutely gutted,' concluded Setchell after the 1-0 defeat in the penultimate qualifying stage at Barwell.

'Our dressing room is an awful place to be at the moment as you would expect. The players are down, very low and to be honest I have no idea how I pick them up at this time. We came here with a game plan and for 99pc of the time it has worked. We knew it wasn't going to be pretty to watch and to be honest the game itself was no spectacle.

'We have dealt all afternoon with the constant bombardment of balls into the box and to be undone in that fashion is very difficult to take. My backline were superb, outstanding. All of them have given me one hell of a shift.

'Smithy (Lee Smith) has been something else coming in and straight away performing in that way. Young Liam Fryatt has come on early in the game and played well beyond his young years.'

On the goal his team conceded Setchell said: 'It's just a horrible mistake.

'Alex (Street) is distraught at the moment, but I cannot go in there and shout at him – that will do no good at all. I won't be going out and getting a 35-year-old experienced keeper in, what's the point? I was going to rest him for tomorrow's League Cup game but he will now play to get his confidence back up.

'He is a young keeper who has these spells of making mistakes. It's all about learning and supporting him. To be honest his performances at the end of last season probably saved us from relegation so I cannot be too hard.

'However, in the cold light of day his mistakes have cost us two league points on Tuesday and a place in the draw for the next round.'

The always honest Setchell added: 'In my opinion a draw would have been a fair result.

'No one did enough to win the game and it was a pretty scrappy contest with not much quality. I now have injuries to worry about in Conor (Marshall, knee) and Sam's (Mulready) hamstring which went tight in the first half and a team to pick up and get ready to go again.

'I was always going to mix and match things a little for tomorrow (Barton Rovers away). Then I will see where we are when Leamington arrive at the weekend.'
