Norwich's Emma Pooley underlined her form with the Giro Rosa green jersey and a weekend to remember.
The 31-year-old's big breakaway effort had already secured a stage win in this year's Giro d'Italia Femminile – the last remaining grand tour on the women's calendar.
The following day saw Pooley's efforts through the Aalps earn her the lead in the queen of the mountains classification. And when the weekend's final two stages of the road arrived, Pooley triumphed in both of them to deliver success for her Lotto-Belisol team.
'Taking this green jersey is really great for the team, to be on that final podium – it's a big honour,' said Pooley. 'I feel like we earned it after all the hard work. I had such great support from the team, they really believed in me.'
Pooley's stage eight win from Verbania to San Domenico di Varzo saw the Norwich rider strongest on the final climb of the day, as she threw off the rest of the field. And then on Sunday's Giro finale, Pooley finished 25 seconds ahead of Pauline Ferrand-Prevot at the summit finish of Magreglio – having climbed the famous Madonna del Ghisallo.
'I'm over the moon,' added Pooley. 'At the beginning of the race I didn't feel that good, but in the end I realized I could make it and I managed to win again. I didn't really expect it.'
Once again it was women's cycling legend Marianne Vos who proved too strong in the overall classification, winning the final pink jersey for the third time in four years.
British time trial champion Pooley, who finished ninth overall, will now look to the road race and time trial events at the Commonwealth Games, which start later this month.
