The Norwich and District League will be represented in the national finals in June.

Neil Charles and Tony Zeqiri will be competing at Wellingborough on June 17 – although Norwich's Andrew Hawes and Chris Cockburn missed out by the narrowest of margins.

The players were competing in the National Table Tennis England, English Leagues Cup competitions, the oldest domestic competition on the calendar which features two senior and two junior competitions. The senior competitions are the Wilmott Cup (men) and the JM Rose Bowl (women) and the Junior competitions are the Carter Cup (boys) and the Bromfield Trophy (girls).

In the Wilmott Cup, Norwich A were placed in a zone with Cambridge and Leamington whilst Norwich B faced Watford A and Luton A.

The first match for Norwich A was a relatively comfortable 4-1 win over Cambridge. Leamington provided a tougher challenge in the afternoon match with Norwich going 1-0 down before recovering to win the match 3-2 and therefore securing their qualification to the national finals.

Norwich B found the going slightly tougher and faced Watford A first, losing 3-2, despite recently-crowned Norwich champion Hawes picking up both his singles 3-1 and 3-0. Cockburn, who was struggling to find his form, lost 3-1 in both singles. In the doubles the pair let a 2-0 lead slip, succumbing 11-7 in the fifth.

Against Luton, Hawes continued to impress winning both his singles again, this time 3-0 and 3-2. Cockburn was unfortunate to miss out losing 11-9 and 12-10 in the fifth in both singles. They went 2-0 up in the doubles again before being pegged back to 2-1. This time they were clinical in finishing the match and Norwich B earned a 3-2 win.

Qualification was out of Norwich B's hand – they needed Luton to beat Watford 3-2 for a three-way countback but Watford won 5-0, leaving Norwich in second place. Hawes won all four singles while Cockburn lost his four.

Louis Moyes and Nathan Downes played for Norwich in the Carter Cup – they lost 3-2 to Watford A, 5-0 to Wembley & Harrow, then beat North Herts and Watford B, both by 5-0, finishing third overall.
