Norwich City's Under-23s came through an incredible game at Colney to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup.

The young Canaries kept their nerve in a penalty shoot-out after an incident packed match had finished 5-5 after extra-time, with Anthony Spyrou equalising for the home side three minutes from the end.

Fulham were quick out of the blocks, with Adetayo Edun opening the scoring after just seven minutes and Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson doubling the visitors' advantage midway through the half.

But that merely set the scene for Louis McIntosh to take centre stage with a hat-trick in the space of 22 minutes that put City 3-2 up at the break. He quickly pulled one back and then a swift one-two just before the break, including one superb finish, turned the match on its head.

The second half was relatively tame, with just one goal, a 69th minute header from Mattias Kait that levelled the scores - but the excitement levels rose to new heights in extra-time.

Fulham twice got their noses in front through Josh Walker (94) and a George Williams penalty (112) but the never-say-die Canaries responded in superb fashion. Ebou Adams cancelled out the Cottagers' fourth goal almost immediately and Spyrou later pounced on a loose ball in the area to take the game to penalties,

Connor McGrandles, Joe Crowe and McIntosh all then converted, while Aston Oxborough made a fine save, as City progressed 3-2, with an Edun effort that crashed against the bar proving decisive.

n Jonny Howson's spectacular volley in last month's 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest was voted the best ever goal at Carrow Road by City fans – but it didn't even make goal of the month in a national vote.

Howson's brilliant effort from outside the box was well beaten by a similar effort from Sheffield Wednesday's Almen Abdi in the poll for the Sky Bet Championship's goal of the month for February.

The Swiss midfielder's strike, also against Forest, received 49 per cent of the public vote to see of fcompetition from Howson and Burton's Michael Kightly, whose goal in the 2-1 win over City also made the top three.
