The 23-year-old saved three penalties as Academical won a shootout 3-0 against Dunfermline Athletic on Tuesday night, following a 1-1 draw after extra-time.

Gorleston-born Matthews only made his comeback from the shoulder injury which had ruled him out for three months in Saturday's original tie, which had also finished in a 1-1 draw.

The Accies needed penalties to get past their Championship opponents in the replay though, coming from behind thanks to a Rakish Bingham penalty in the 87th minute.

Matthews, making his 15th appearance of the season for the Scottish Premiership side, then saved three penalties to leave Hamilton boss Martin Canning to tell the BBC: 'The quality of the penalties was good. Remi saves three out of three, which is big for him.'
