Norwich City manager Hughton has also been closely linked with Sunderland central defender Michael Turner, with Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill confirming that a fee had been agreed for the 28-year-old.

'We're just waiting for news to come through,' O'Neill said. 'We've given Michael permission to go and speak to Norwich and that's where it stands at this minute. We'll see what develops.

'A fee had been agreed between the two clubs, Michael has gone down there and I'm waiting to hear back.'

Turner's impending sale comes just days after fellow centre-half Wes Brown suffered suspected knee ligament damage.
