Norwich City have been linked with Sochaux striker Cedric Bakambu.

The Canaries and Premier League rivals Newcastle are reportedly keeping tabs on the 22-year-old who has played for France at youth level with SportsDirect News claiming Newcastle lead the chase given their strong scouting connections in France with a host of players making the switch across the channel to the north-east in recent seasons.

Norwich boss Chris Hughton is reportedly monitoring the situation. The City chief brought in both Gary Hooper and Ricky van Wolfswinkel over the summer but both have endured injury-hit debut campaigns whilst on-loan striker Johan Elmander is yet to score since his return to England.

Respected French newspaper L'Equipe reported last week struggling Sochaux will look to cash in during this transfer window with the striker available for £2.5m. Bakambu has scored 17 goals in 71 appearances for Sochaux who are languishing in the lower reaches of Ligue One.
