Norwich City are rumoured to be finalising a move for former Rangers and Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty.

The 26-year-old helped Palermo to the Serie B title in Italy last season, scoring 11 goals, but the Sicily-based club are rumoured to be willing to sell Lafferty as they attempt to strengthen for a return to Serie A next season.

Lafferty is set for a medical at Carrow Road, according to www.football-italia.net.

The tall striker has been capped 39 times by Northern Ireland, scoring nine goals, and featured as a substitute in recent friendlies against Chile and Uruguay ahead of the World Cup.

He came through the youth system at Burnley and scored 10 goals in 88 appearances, 33 as a substitute, but his potential earned him a £3million move to the Scottish Premier League with Rangers.

Lafferty played 127 times for the Scottish giants, scoring 38 goals, but was one of a host of players – alongside Canaries defender Steven Whittaker – to leave Ibrox after the club went into financial meltdown.

The striker then moved to Switzerland and scored five goals in 25 games for FC Sion, before making the switch to Italy.

The report makes no mention of how much City would pay for Lafferty and would appear to be at odds with a Daily Record report in late March after the striker had been praised by Russia's former England manager Fabio Capello.

Lafferty told the Scottish newspaper: 'I thank him for his kind words but I have no wish to play in Russia. My plans have always been to return to Scotland towards the end of my career.

'I will see out the remaining two years of my contract at Palermo. My aim is to win promotion here.'

While Lafferty is the latest in a steady stream of players being linked with City this summer, Canaries supporters have been given hope that Robert Snodgrass will not be leaving this summer.

The winger won the club's player of the season award last campaign and continued to be linked with Hull City in Sunday newspapers at the weekend.

The 26-year-old Scot, who is out of contract next summer, has appeared in a teaser video promoting the release of City's new kit tomorrow – featuring as a window cleaner. Click here to watch the video.
