Norwich City midfielder Robert Snodgrass insists he is determined to help the Canaries secure another season of Premier League football.

Snodgrass was linked with a return home to join his boyhood club Celtic earlier in the transfer window but the 26-year-old insists the one positive to take from his midweek stand-off with fans in the 0-0 Premier League draw against Newcastle was it offered the perfect riposte to those who doubt his commitment.

'I am here. If I wanted to go to Celtic, then you would not see passion like that on the football park, no chance,' he said. 'I am doing everything I possibly can and I will continue to do that for this football club, that is why I am showing all this passion and desire. We are all pulling in the right direction for Norwich City. I put so much heart and determination into everything I do, because I care. The fans know what we want and when it does not go right there is no one really more disappointed than myself, I don't think straight for days on end. The fans were singing my name at the end and I went straight over to apologise to that section of the ground. It is one of those things and you draw a line under it.'

City chief Chris Hughton yesterday praised Snodgrass' willingness to set the record straight after volunteering to face the media at Colney.

'Fair play to Robert for wanting to come and speak about what happened. That should tell everyone how much it means to him,' said Hughton. 'You want enthusiastic players with passion and the result means something to them. Around that we all make mistakes and if you do you have to be prepared to admit you were in the wrong. He knew that. He addressed it quickly and apologised but it is an emotional game. I've spoken to him since because I wasn't aware of the incident initially. The fans want players who will give everything for the team, but I haven't felt the need to speak to the group. This was an isolated incident which has been dealt with by Robert himself.'
