Declan Rudd insists there will be no room for sentiment when he comes up against his boyhood club on Wednesday night.

Rudd will make his 100th appearance for Preston against the Canaries, the club where he came up through the ranks and gave him his first opportunity in senior football.

Despite the 28-year-old being grateful to City, he admits he would dearly love to get one over his former club.

'I've always been a Norwich fan, growing up there and supporting the club so it's great to see them doing well because they gave me the chance to be a footballer,' said Rudd, who decided to leave the Canaries to gain more first team opportunities when Angus Gunn was brought in on loan from Manchester City for the 2017/18 season. 'In terms of the squad I don't see too much between us and them and I'm happy to be here now.

'It's a completely different club now, not one of the starting Xl yesterday was there when I was playing there and I probably know more players in other teams in the league than I do in the Norwich team!

'It's just another game and no matter who you play you want to win, if anything there's a bit more of me that wants to beat them so it should be a good game.'

Preston have been in fine form recently, easing themselves away from the Championship danger zone with three wins and a draw from their last five matches.

'We are looking up the table now, earlier in the season we were more fighting relegation but we are now showing that we are back to what we should be as a squad and we are looking to keep moving up the table.

'The club brought in some really good players in the transfer window and they seem to fit in really well and things are really looking up for us.'

Rudd fell out of favour at Carrow Road whilst Alex Neil was manager but he has become first choice under the Scot at Deepdale.

'It's an honour to represent the club so many times in the league and it's a great achievement for me,' he added.
