Ivo Pinto's future may be in doubt but Norwich City supporters have given the right-back their support.

An emphatic 76 percent of Canaries fans voting in our latest online poll have said they would like the Portuguese wide man to stay, despite recent signings.

The 28-year-old lost his place to on-loan Southampton midfielder Harrison Reed for much of the second half of last season, featuring mostly as a substitute during the latter stages.

With no other experienced cover at right-back City came close to signing Nigeria international Tyronne Ebuehi in January, only for Benfica to swoop.

Close-season attempts to bring in 21-year-old Hidde Ter Avest from Dutch side Den Haag were also thwarted by Udinese, as both targets opted for top flight moves elsewhere in Europe.

However, sporting director Stuart Webber and head coach Daniel Farke pulled off something of a coup earlier this week when signing highly-rated Germany youth international Felix Passlack from Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old's arrival followed the weekend signing of Wolves winger Ben Marshall, who can play right wing-back, with Farke describing the 27-year-old as 'very versatile' and capable of playing on either side of the defence.

With U23 right-back Max Aarons also signing a long-term contract this summer, it is clear that the position has renewed strength and with Pinto now into the final year of his contract, it remains to be seen whether the man who wore the captain's armband last season is still required.

POLL: Pinto facing battle for his Canaries future after loan signing

The former Portugal U21 international has made 89 appearances since joining from Dinamo Zagreb in a deal reportedly worth around £2million in January 2016, scoring three goals.

Although his defensive strength and final ball when on the attack have often been questioned, Pinto's explosive pace and likeable character have made him a popular Canaries player and an easy choice to take over as skipper when Russell Martin fell out of first-team contention under Farke last season.
