Norwich City will survive relegation and hit the 40-point mark by the end of the season, according to the bookies.

After the Canaries victory at Old Trafford on Saturday, Alex Neil's men are now predicted to finish the season in 16th place, two points clear of relegation, spread betting firm Sporting Index predicts.

Newcastle United will drop into the relegation zone, going down with fellow strugglers Sunderland and Aston Villa, according to the prediction.

Ed Fulton, from Sporting Index, said: 'Norwich City's win at Old Trafford was just the early present from Father Christmas many fans were hoping for, and our traders are now predicting the Canaries will avoid the drop by a whisker.

'However, with a trip to Tottenham on Boxing Day, and home fixtures against Aston Villa, Southampton and Man City in quick succession, Alex Neil will know that his team must continue to accumulate points to be sure of safety.'
