Jacob Murphy has been receiving congratulations from around the football world after being named in an England Under-21 squad for the first time.

Norwich City fans and players, former team-mates and fans of clubs where Murphy has spent time on loan have all been sending the winger messages on social media following his call-up.

Murphy posted a photo of himself taking part in training at the Football Association's national base at St George's Park in Burton on his @JacobMurphy95 Twitter account and said: 'Over the moon to have joined up with @England U21s! Thank you for all the messages – greatly appreciated!'

The 22-year-old Canaries academy product replaced Chelsea's Izzy Brown, who picked up a knee injury when playing for loan club Huddersfield last week.

That saw the west Norfolk-raised attacker added to the squad by coach Aidy Boothroyd for away friendlies against Germany on Friday (7pm) and Denmark next Monday (6pm).

The call-up allows Murphy to continue his international youth career, having previously represented the Three Lions at U18, U19 and U20 levels.

City's rising star scored his 10th goal of the season in Saturday's 2-0 win over Barnsley, to continue an excellent first full season for the club, having previously spent time on loan at Coventry, Blackpool, Colchester, Scunthorpe, Swindon and Southend.

He joins a former Canaries academy team-mate in the squad, goalkeeper Angus Gunn, the son of Norwich legend Bryan who is on the fringes of the first team at Premier League giants Manchester City.
