Norwich City outcast Kyle Lafferty is closing in on a move to Championship rivals Cardiff City.

Skysports reported on Tuesday lunchtime the Northern Irishman is in 'advanced talks' with the Welsh club over a permanent deal for the striker. Alex Neil made it clear prior to the weekend's 3-0 Championship defeat at Birmingham City reports of the Bluebirds' interest at that stage was 'speculation' but with City still in the market for a striker ahead of Wednesday's transfer deadline, following the completion of Nelson Oliveira's move from Benfica, that could spell the end for Lafferty.

Steven Naismith started at St Andrew's on Saturday ahead of the 28-year-old in the absence of injured first choice forward Cameron Jerome before a second-half cameo.

Lafferty finished last season on-loan at Birmingham and has also had a spell in Turkish club football after failing to establish himself in the Norwich first team under Neil.

The Ulsterman is currently part of Northern Ireland's squad for an upcoming World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic.
