Norwich City’s Nathan Redmond is ready to samba against Brazil’s best youngsters

Redmond was rested for the Young Lions' opening 3-0 win against Qatar after his hat-trick helped sink the Welsh in a Uefa U21 European Championship qualifier last week.

The 20-year-old starlet knows the Samba stars will pose a stiff test for Gareth Southgate's squad as they bid to go all the way in the annual youth event held in France.

'It is going to be an interesting one. Before we got to Toulon and we looked at the fixtures Brazil was obviously the one which stood out the most,' said Redmond. 'We will go out and do what we have done all season, which is to go out and work hard and look to perform as a team and come out with the three points. Hopefully I will be in the line up. If I am I will be delighted and I can crack on and look to put in a performance for England but if I am not starting, I will be supporting the lads from the off sat on the bench. The gaffer and his coaching staff have told us we will all have to play a part because this is a busy period now. We have something like three games in five days coming up. This is a team effort and we are playing for the badge on the front. We look out for each other. We are always looking to improve.'

Southgate insists his players have nothing to fear against the next generation of talented Brazilians.

'The perception is that South American football is all flair, but actually, they get it up there to four forwards and then they flood bodies forward,' he told the FA's official site. 'They're strong, athletic and they're quick. They don't mind breaking the play up and they go to win. If we played a lot of the balls they do, that I've shown to the lads, people would think it's an old-style English back-to-front with two strikers challenging. The key for us is that we're not playing against Pele, Ronaldo or Romario, it's their group of U20s against our group of U20s.'
