Norwich City chief executive David McNally has responded to recent speculation linking the Canaries to Peterborough United striker Craig Mackail-Smith.
McNally told the club's official website: 'I can confirm we made an enquiry about the availability of a Peterborough United player last Thursday.'
'On Friday we were told what we would have to do to make it happen. After some consultation we agreed to their key terms and suggested one or two minor amends. However, at this point they moved the goal posts and asked for considerably more money, a lot more than they originally indicated to make the transaction happen.
'We had a further meeting today and we haven't been able to agree anything and it looks like it's not meant to be - that's football, we move on. But you never say never, as who knows what might happen in the summer.'
