Kyle Lafferty knows he is in a dogfight to spearhead Norwich City's attack for the Canaries' Championship promotion push.

The Northern Irish international has already scored twice in pre-season, notably a spectacular free kick against Braintree, but Lafferty realises there is a battle to be won against his direct striking rivals in Neil Adams' squad.

'I knew coming here all about the strikers they had and they have brought in myself and Lewis (Grabban) since so, for me, I take the view its better to have that sort of quality at the club,' he said.

'You are going to have to work very hard in training to impress the manager and then take your chance if you get it on the pitch. Grabs scored 22 in 44 games and that is a fantastic return.

'I played against Gary (Hooper) at Celtic and I know what he can do. He scored a lot of goals up there and in the Champions League and you also have the young lads who are hungry for a chance and it is exciting.'

Lafferty, speaking to Norwich City TV, is setting the bar high for Adams' squad after career spells abroad in Switzerland and Italy.

'We are here to win the league,' he said. 'I always thought about coming back to the UK, whether it was this year or next, but after speaking to the gaffer and how he sold the club and what he wants to do this season to get a chance to maybe bring a team like Norwich City back into the Premier League is not an option you get too often so I jumped at the chance.'

The 27-year-old sat out the opening practice match of City's Italian tour but is back in training ahead of the final scheduled game just over the French border against SC Bastia.

'The facilities are amazing,' he said. 'You are here high up in the mountains with the altitude so as a player you can't ask for a better setting to prepare.

'Seeing the team and the way we have trained there is a desire there to fight for each other. When we go to difficult places where teams will set up just to get a draw those games come down to how much we want it and how much we are willing to work for each other.'
