Jacob Murphy is ready to accept Chris Hughton's challenge and prove he can force his way into Norwich City's first team plans after his winning loan debut for League Two Southend.

Murphy and fellow Norwich development prospect Jamar Loza featured in the Shrimpers' 1-0 win over Torquay that maintained Southend's play-off push.

The teenage wide player has moved to Roots Hall until the end of the current season just days after Hughton promoted the benefits of Football League experience for City's young guns to prove they can step up to the mark. Murphy made his first team debut when he replaced twin Josh in Norwich's FA Cup third round tie against Fulham earlier this season before a loan stint at Swindon Town.

'The aim is to push forward. I am here until May 5 and I want to show everyone here and at Norwich what I can do,' said Murphy. 'Swindon was a really good learning experience for me. I got seven games under my belt and this is hopefully going to push me on again.

'Making my Norwich debut in the FA Cup was also really good experience. It gave me a chance to show what I can do and I need to keep adding to that and this loan spell can help me. Josh is doing really well and on the verge of the first-team so hopefully the experience I get with Southend will move me closer. I just want to play as many games as possible between now and the end of the season and hopefully help this club get promoted.'

Murphy revealed Loza's presence at Southend had helped him settle in quickly at the Shrimpers with the pacy striker on an initial month's loan at Phil Brown's side.

'I got the call on Thursday and I was really delighted that they wanted me to come here. Its great to link up with Jams as well,' Murphy told Southend's official site. 'Knowing Jamar obviously really helped the move and the settling in process. We've known each other for a long time and have played a lot of games together, so hopefully we can continue that here.

'I think our pace means we can get at defences and hopefully excite the Southend supporters and we both want to help get the club into the play-off positions, and promoted to League One. The first few days of training you can sense the good vibes. They are a great bunch of lads and I feel like I have been here for a while so I want to push on now.'
