Chris Hughton knows the next stage of Norwich City's Premier League development is their ability to compete regularly away from Carrow Road.

The Canaries' remain resolute on home soil but a 1-0 win at Stoke in September is all they have to show for six league trips around the country.

'Stoke is a level we have to get back to. The philosophy certainly isn't different,' said Hughton. 'Of course you will have to set up differently on occasions and you know in certain games you will lose out in terms of possession, but we always try to get something in every game we play. We have been a bit stop start, but that is the league generally and we want to get some consistency and continuity.

'First and foremost I need to make sure that we play with discipline, particularly at Anfield, but you also have to try and have periods with the ball. We found out at Manchester City if you have a bad day and they have a good one what can happen and we never got near them. As much as we want to win away, and we will do, it will always be more difficult for us.'

Hughton realises few will give his side a chance at Liverpool, but Norwich head north buoyed by victory over Crystal Palace.

'It doesn't change the mindset going to Anfield but I would be lying to say there isn't a better feeling and confidence is a big part of the game,' he said. 'You just want them to carry that feeling into the Liverpool game. We have been disappointing away from home and this game arguably doesn't come much tougher. 'We wanted to be out of the bottom three and now we are, we want to look upwards.'
