Alex Neil knows from first hand experience just how good a new addition Graham Dorrans is to Norwich City's squad.

The duo sparred as opponents in league skirmishes between Hamilton and Livingston before Dorrans moved south for a seven-year spell at West Brom. The 27-year-old midfielder could feature in Saturday's Championship trip to Watford after sealing an initial loan move until March 22, and Neil would have no qualms unleashing him at Vicarage Road.

'He was here with us from Wednesday so we've had two sessions to work on the tactical side of things,' said Neil. 'He is an intelligent player and generally with those lads you don't have to tell them twice. With offensive players you don't want to limit and restrict them too much. I want him to express himself. I have known him for the best part of 10 years, not personally, but as a player. I played against him when he was at Livingston and he has done exceptionally well since he came down to England. Last time in the Championship I think he scored 18 goals and he was player-of-the-season and he is a Scotland international as well so he has that pedigree. Technically, he is very, very good and he is the type that can open a team up and scoregoals as he did the last time he was in the Championship. We are adding a real Premier League player to the squad.

'Not so long ago I found myself with only one fit midfielder in the centre of the park and how I want my team to play it's really important we have a lot of options in there and guys who are slightly different from each other. Graham is a bit different to what we have got.'
